Come Explore The St. Georges Wreck
Surrounded by an ocean desert in St. George freighter 240-foot home to a multitude of marine organisms, sponges, coral, tropical fish and even barracuda.
Originally known as M.V. Norbrae, St. George was built in 1962 in the shipyard Ardrossan in Strathclyde, Scotland. This transatlantic cargo of 240 feet long, carrying wheat and barley between Norway and the Americas, was abandoned at the port of Santo Domingo after 20 years of service and got its new name after surviving all the fury of Hurricane George in 1998.
On June 12, 1999, St. George was sunk at sea in the area of La Romana-Bayahibe, Dominican Republic with the purpose of creating an artificial reef and interesting dive site.
The sheer depth of this wreck has your senses tingling! And although the total bottom time is relatively short as compared to shallower dives, it is definitely worth the visit!
Diving in the Dominican Republic has a lot to offer to divers of all ages and levels. From the beginner who is doing the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program all the way to PADI Master Divers, you are sure to find a dive site that will awaken the explorer in you.
Divers in the Dominican Republic will find a wonderful array of diving off every coast, and each region has its signature dives.
Most well known for its shallow vibrant reefs that are teeming with brightly colored tropical fish and light beam-filled caverns, the dive sites in the Dominican Republic will delight you.
And, thanks to a seafaring history that includes it’s fair share of pirate invasion and unfortunate wrecks, divers tend to gravitate to a long list of brag-worthy wrecks, both natural and artificial, that date from the 16th century to the modern era.
Warm water and generally good visibility make most of the Dominican Republic a year-round destination for divers of every level. So what are you waiting for???? Get wet!!! Snorkel, complete your PADI Open Water Diver course, or take your PADI Advanced Open Water certification and explore the deeper wrecks and walls, and the exciting, vibrant underwater world that surrounds this beautifully lush tropical paradise.
Punta Cana Scuba Diving was created with one goal in mind – to provide exceptional dive experiences to those visiting Punta Cana. Our owners are a unique combination of local and international knowledge that leverage their considerable experience to deliver memories of a lifetime.
We understand that in today’s fast paced world, vacations have become an increasingly important way to relax, reconnect with family and friends, and experience new and interesting places. With this in mind, we provide the highest quality dives by customizing your dive itinerary with the sites that interest you the most and by only dealing with small groups. While other companies also offer dive excursions, we strongly believe our expertise and approach set us apart.
The large dive shops sell dive excursions – typically in very large groups where your one on one time with the instructor is minimal and your dive time is decided by the diver who breathes fastest. We focus on smaller groups and your interaction with the instructor is increased as will your dive time as there are less divers in the group. We also offer private teaching for those wishing to take PADI Dive Courses.
Our Approach is that we believe quality service is not only highly valued by customers, but ultimately leads to better experiences and higher satisfaction. That is why we personally accompany you on the dives.
